The San Diego Padres have many young talented players in their farm system currently.

Among them is a RHP named Michell Miliano, and he looks to have a very bright future.

The big Dominican pitcher was signed in June as part of the international spending spree the team went on. He was inked to a $450,000 contract, that could prove to be a steal when it is all said and done. The pitcher just turned 17 and is already turning heads with his stuff.

Michell Miliano has a decent repertoire already. He can reach the low to mid 90’s with his fastball and he has shown a decent breaking pitch so far.

The Padres had slowly come to the realization that their Latin talent and ability to cultivate it had been lagging behind most other organizations. It is nice to see the club able to not only sign these players, but have the ability to help them grow within their system and get better.

Miliano has a long way to go, but he is a name that is undervalued at the moment. That is perfectly fine, because he has the skills to be successful, and at his young age, he has virtually the same chance as a pitcher that signed for 10 times what he did. It is all about effort and taking advantage of the situation. Luck is also a factor as you have to be in the correct situation for you, as a player. Currently the Padres’ farm system is the “right” place for many young players. Special things are going on there.

Take a peek at this video of Miliano and you will notice that the pitcher has poise about him.

Miliano is listed at 6’3″ and 185 lbs, but at his age, he is obviously still growing into his body. He could very easily develop more velocity in time as he begins to thicken out and add muscle to his wiry frame. The Dominican pitcher has made an appearance in the U.S. and that bodes well for his development. He should continue his progression this year in the states and it will be fun to see him against stiffer competition.

The video above was taken a couple of months ago from FanGraphs at the Fall Instructional League. It was Miliano’s first showing as a professional and he took the mound with a ton of confidence and poise. At his age, it is remarkable for him to show that type of composure.

He has a smooth, repeatable delivery and a very athletic frame. Some reports indicate there was a great chance he would have been a top-10 pick in the next signing period, if he had not signed with the club. He is anxious to get his career going and he could easily ascend through the Padres’ farm system in the next few seasons. Keep your eye out for this man as he starts his first full season of pro ball. The Padres system is deep and it is difficult to keep tabs on them all, but we will do our best to educate you on all things Padres.
