Miller Park- Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Chris Paddack making his final start of the 2019 season took the mound in Milwaukee to try and even the series.

Paddack rarely ran into trouble and the Brewers only got to him for one run. Lorenzo Cain launched his ninth home run of the year, giving the Brewers a 1-0 lead in the third.

That would be all the Brewers would get against Paddack, who tossed five solid innings, allowing just that one run and hit, while walking one and striking out nine.

This marked the third time this year he has struck out at least nine batters.

Paddack would be removed after five innings with 84 pitches with San Diego still trailing 1-0. The score would remain the same until Hunter Renfroe led off the seventh inning with his 32nd home run of the year. It was his first since August 10th and just his fifth of the second half of the year, after hitting 27 in the first half. This tied the game at one. “He was great tonight,” Green said of Paddack after the game. When the manager was asked about Paddack and the rest of the 2019 season- “Tonight will be his last outing,” Green replied.

The Brewers responded immediately as Mike Moustakas hit his 35th home run of the year, breaking the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh off of Matt Strahm

In the bottom of the eighth, Ben Gamel doubled off of rookie reliever David Bednar and later scored on a sacrifice fly, extending the Brewers lead to 3-1.

The Padres were unable to mount a comeback against former Padres All-Star Drew Pomeranz, who struck out four for the two-inning save.

The Friars have now lost six straight, which ties a season-high. What looked like a chance to finish with their best record since 2014 (77-85) now has turned into a battle to get to 70 wins.

The third game of this four-game set is Wednesday at 4:40 PM PDT. Dinelson Lamet will take the hill to try and stop this losing streak.
