The San Diego Padres have traded Yangervis Solarte.

The return?

A very toolsy outfielder by the name of Edward Olivares. The former Blue Jay has plenty of upside, but we wanted to get an idea of what kind of player he is.

Instead of just crunching numbers, we thought we would bring in two of the best evaluators in the business. Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com and Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs are prospects guys. They are aware of who Olivares is, and they gladly give us a little more on the outfielder.

Both men tell us a ton about Oliveras, and Eric gives us a little bit about Jared Carkuff, who was also obtained in the deal from Toronto.

After speaking to both Jonathan and Eric, we discuss some recent Padre moves.

Tyson Ross and Chris Young were both inked to minor league deals. We discuss the additions and what they mean for the Friars.

In recent days, the team has signed two relievers. Craig Stammen and Kazuhisa Makita were both added on two-year deals. The right-handed relievers will help shore up what is looking to be a decent Padre’ bullpen in 2018.

We could not make it through the podcast without talking about Eric Hosmer and Christian Yelich. Hosmer rumors are still relatively warm, but you have not heard much about a potential Marlins/Padres swap. We briefly talk about what kind of return the Marlins would demand. The price tag is lofty.

Thank you for the listen and please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or comments.
