The MLB Winter Meetings are just about to kick off in Florida.

In recent days, the Padres have been linked to Eric Hosmer. I know it sounds far-fetched and it is.

We discuss the topic, as we try to figure out what exactly the Padres are doing. The team is not built to win now, so entertaining such an expensive free agent seems really strange, especially if you factor in that he does not fit the team defensively. Who knows.

The San Diego Padres will be playing a series in Mexico this coming May. We speak briefly about the game, and Luis Urias’ brother, Ramon.

It is well-known that the Padres have one of the best farm systems in all of major league baseball. We discuss some of the other top organizations and whether or not they have the depth the Padres do. The Braves, Yankees, and White Sox systems are all discussed.

The Padres have shut down Fernando Tatis Jr. for the winter, but there is still plenty to talk in regards to winter league ball. Andres Munoz recently threw on national television and was extremely impressive. The 18-year-old hit 102 on the radar gun and has all of Padreland a buzz.

Josh Naylor and Luis Urias have played well this winter for the Javelinas as they enter the last week of the season. Still plenty of baseball to see.

In closing, we discuss the recent Baseball Prospectus rankings of the Padres’ top 10 prospects. No huge surprises, except maybe for the addition of Hudson Potts to the top 10 and the failure to include Joey Lucchesi. You can take these rankings with a grain of salt.

Thank you for your time and let us know if there is anything we can do to improve the show. Go Padres!

  1. Although I agree with you guys that the Padres will not contend next year, not signing guys or making deals looking at 2 years down the road would not be wise. The Padres do not have to pigeon hole themselves into only making positives acquisitions next off season. If they can get deal on a free agent or trade a couple of guys they see expendable as far as the next good Padre team goes, why not make the deal now? Don’t get me wrong, going all out on a high priced free agent or trading away any of the top notch prospects now wouldn’t be wise, but making a “good baseball trade” wouldn’t kill me.

As far as trading farm systems, I agree with Patrick, Atlanta is the only team I would consider trading with. Also, when MLB.com releases their new top 100 list, Tatis and Gore will most likely be top 20 guys from everything I’ve read/heard.

PS Not to nit pick, but who has been playing with the poker chips/checkers the last couple of podcasts? I had never heard it before, but the last couple, that is all I am hearing. If there is a reason for this, I am sorry to bring it up. Thanks for the listen, go Padres!!
