Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 46 with John Conniff
The show welcomes back John Conniff of MadFriars.
He has a wealth of information about the Padres’ farm system as he has covered the team for a long time.
We ask John about the recent draft selections and his thoughts about each new Padre.
Mackenzie Gore is discussed in-depth as we learn John’s feelings on the prep left-hander.
We also discuss Luis Campusano and Blake Hunt and the thought process in drafting the two catchers with their second and third selections. We all agree they took the best talent available and the catching duo should both stick at the position long-term.
Mason House was selected by the team with their third-round pick and he looks to be a real gamer. We get John’s impression of him and we also briefly discuss Sam Keading.
Moving on to prospects that are already in the system, we discuss Austin Smith. The big, right-handed pitcher was the team’s first selection in the 2015 draft, but was recently demoted to Tri-City in an attempt to come back as a reliever.
