Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 43 with Geoff Young
In this week’s episode, fresh off the draft, we welcome in Padres “Blog Father”, Geoff Young.
He did our show last year around this time and we decided it was time to bring back the man.
It is always great to talk to Geoff and pick his brain about the state of the current Padres’ regime.
We speak a bit about the draft and Mackenzie Gore. We also briefly speak about the two catchers drafted and the strategy the Padres seem to be implementing.
It’s an exciting time for Padres fans as the team brought in a bunch of high-ceiling talent to go with a burgeoning farm system.
We speak about the farm system a bit, as we get Geoff’s top-5 Padres’ prospects. An interesting conversation ensued about each potential prospect and the fact the Padres have incredible depth, unlike they have ever had.
Hunter Renfroe, Franchy Cordero, Jose Pirela, and Luis Perdomo are discussed in full.
The Wil Myers situation is brought up as the three of us try to figure out what is wrong with the young slugger. Geoff makes some interesting observations about him and we all agree he is capable of more, though we are starting to get concerned that the current Wil Myers we see, is really who he really is as a ball player.
Allen Cordoba‘s amazing season is talked about, as is his role moving forward.
It was a great conversation with a Padres’ blogging legend. We thank Geoff for his time. We went a little bit over in time, but the talk was really that good.
