Another solo show this week, as we first discuss all the recent moves made by the team.

Travis d’Arnaud, Jose Valdez, and Carlos Asuaje are all a topic of discussion for the two of us. The addition of d’Arnaud is intriguing, as we don’t know exactly where he fits on the squad. He plays all over the place, but at the age of 30, he is no prospect. He gives the Padres yet another utility-type player.

Luis Sardinas was DFA’d by the Padres on Monday, as they reportedly grew tired of his poor work ethic, and underachieving performance on the field. He has ability, but did not seem motivated, and the club deemed him expendable. There is now an open spot on the 40-man roster.

With that open spot, there is speculation that the Padres will call up Dinelson Lamet to start Thursday. We talk about all the options for that Thursday start in New York. We also discuss if Lamet is even ready for major league action.

Luis Perdomo was roughed up on Saturday by the D-backs, and we briefly talk about his future. Don’t get too down on the young man just yet. There is plenty of time for growth with him as he is still learning his ability on the mound.

In our weekly analytical/stat segment, we talk about xBA (expected batting average) and xwOBA (weighted on base average) and how that helps determine a players’ value, offensively. Patrick enlightens us on the subject and we briefly discuss some of the Padres’ numbers and how they are looking so far in 2017.

Yangervis Solarte has been slumping for a few weeks. The veteran has some interesting numbers that we bring up, as we determine if he will break out soon.

In the minor league part of the show we talk about Eric Lauer, Joey Lucchesi, and their reported promotions. We also discuss Reggie Lawson and Mason Thompson and their debut in Fort Wayne. Each young hurler will now be a part of the rotation as the Padres’ minor league system is blossoming. #TheFuture is a hash tag we are starting here at EVT. It signifies every Padres’ fans mantra as they attempt to make it through the 2017 season.

Cory Spangenberg and Ryan Schimpf are discussed in the rapid fire segment of the show, as was Luis Robert, the Padres #3 pick in the June draft, and the struggling bullpen. There were plenty of topics to discuss in this week’s show.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We always strive to get better. Thank you for the listen and Go Padres!
