Padres EVT Podcast: Episode 102 with James and Patrick

In this podcast, we go over the depth in the minor leagues of the San Diego Padres.

The major league team is not very appealing to talk about. So. Why not?

The two of us go through each position and talk a little bit about the players the Padres have down in the system. There is much to be excited about, as the majority of the players within the system have taken a step forward. Sure, there are some who have not. But all in all, the system has improved.

The catching depth in the system is deep and we discuss it for a bit. Francisco Mejia certainly added to it.

We then move to the infield, where first and third are positions the team is thin at. The middle infield is not thin, as we go over the dozen or so names that are second base type players in this system. It really is amazing how many middle infielders the Padres have in the minors.

The outfield is not a particularly deep area for the team, but with all the youth in the major leagues, it is not a bad thing. We discuss some names that have regressed this year. We also shout out some players that have stepped up.

Pitching is a strength in the system and we discuss the majority of the top 20 or so arms. Yes. There are that many worth discussing. It amazes me the names that come out of nowhere each time I dissect a DSL game or look at a box score from the AZL.

We talk about Eric Hosmer for a while, as we both vent.

Lastly, we go over the Padres quest for young, controllable pitching. We both agree that the team is up to something in this regard. We have been saying so for the last month or two. Only time will tell if the Padres make a huge move like this and deal prospects for pitching.
