San Diego Padres’ affiliates went 1-0 on Thursday.

Here is a recap of the night’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 5-4 vs Las Vegas in 10 innings) (62-85 on the season)
Cal Mitchell – 2-for-3, Two Home Runs, Three RBI
Luis Campusano – 2-for-5, Double, Run Scored
Gabe Mosser – 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K (97 pitches – 62 strikes)

In his final start of the season, right-hander Gabe Mosser finished the season on a high note, firing a quality start. Mosser struck out four across six innings, allowing a pair of runs on a two-run home run. The Pennsylvania native was a fixture in the Chihuahuas’ rotation this season, wrapping up his first full Triple-A campaign with a team-leading 26 starts. Reliever Jayvien Sandridge allowed a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give the hosting Aviators a 4-1 lead, but as they have done all series long, the Chihuahuas showed their grit in the ninth inning. Cal Mitchell tee’d off on reliever Jack Cushing, hitting his second home run of the game to score two runs, bringing the deficit down to one run. Kevin Plawecki doubled with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Jose Sanabria at second. Clay Dungan grounded out to the right side, with Sanabria scooting to third base with two down. Connor Hollis stood at the plate as the tying run, but reliever Jack Cushing uncorked a wild pitch to score Sanabria from third.

For the third game in a row, the Chihuahuas and Aviators played bonus baseball after a scoreless ninth inning from Ethan Routzahn. The 26-year-old sidewinder has performed exceptionally well across Double-A and Triple-A this season and could be another option for the major league club come 2025. In the top of the tenth inning, Tirso Ornelas moved the automatic runner in Connor Hollis to third, and Brett Sullivan launched a go-ahead sacrifice fly to score Hollis. El Paso now led 5-4, and manager Pete Zamora turned to closer Austin Davis. With the speedy Hoy Park at second as the automatic runner, Davis retired Armando Alvarez on a grounder to third and retired Brett Harris on a shallow fly ball to center. After issuing the intentional walk to Carlos Perez, Davis misplaced an 0-1 sinker, and Aviators designated hitter Tristan Gray hit the ball 104.3 mph off the bat… right at second baseman Clay Dungan, who threw to first to retire the side, securing El Paso’s third consecutive extra-inning win.
