Padres Down on the Farm: May 5 (Olivares Homers Three Times for Soddies/Gore Flawless in LE)

San Diego Padres affiliates went 3-1 on Sunday.

El Paso Chihuahuas Won 6-5 (21-9 overall)
The Chihuahuas stayed hot, as they beat Salt Lake by the score of 6-5 on Sunday on a wild pitch that scored Michael Gettys. Austin Allen‘s three-run homer in the eighth inning was key in the comeback victory for El Paso before that. They scored five runs in the eighth to take a 5-2 lead, but the Bees scored three runs to tie the game. An error by Peter Van Gansen was key, as Luis Perdomo allowed three unearned runs on three hits. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Michael Gettys singled and was moved to third on a base hit off the bat of Luis Urias. He trotted home a few pitches later as Matt Ramsey threw a wild pitch for the walkoff El Paso victory.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 8-5 (13-17 overall)
Young outfielder Edward Olivares had himself a game on Sunday in Texas. He slugged three homers for the Soddies in a win and now has eight on the season. Olivares has put on alot of muscle over the last year or so. That added weight has transformed him into a power threat. In the game, Olivares homered each time he faced Travelers’ starting pitcher Darren McCaughan. The Soddies got up early on Arkansas and did not look back in the 8-5 win. Miguel Diaz made the start for Amarillo in his first game back from a knee issue during the spring. He could factor eventually for the major league team as they search for relief options. Travis Radke continues to be impresive in Amarillo, as he threw two scoreless innings, walking one and striking out five. Hudson Potta is heating up as he homered in the game and doubled twice. His OPS is up to .729 on the season now.

Lake Elsinore Storm Won 8-0 (13-18 overall)
MacKenzie Gore continues his dominance of the California League. The left-handed pitcher threw five shutout innings on Sunday and only allowed two walks. He will be in Double-A very soon. That you can be sure of. On Sunday, the Storm got two longballs from Jalen Washington on the day. Nate Easley was recently demoted from Double-A Amarillo and made the start in the leadoff position for the Storm, going 2-for-5 with a double. Taylor Kohlwey recorded three hits as Lake Elsinore knocked out 15 base hits in total on the day. Lake Elsinore will now head home for a six-game homestand that starts on Tuesday.

Fort Wayne TinCaps Lost 4-3 (12-17 overall)
The TinCaps lost a close one in extra innings as Quad City pushed accross two runs in the top of the 11th to seal the victory. Agustin Ruiz continues to be impressive. The young Mexican outfielder went 1-for-5 in the game and is hitting .306 on the year with a .760 OPS. Tucupita Marcano continues to swing a hot bat and is up to .308 on the year after a 2-for-4 game on Sunday. Ryan Weathers was placed on the IL before the game with a dead arm and Austin Smith was added to the roster. A.J. Preller’s first ever draft pick allowed two earned runs in three innings as he tries to improve and earn his way out of the Midwest League. Adrian Martinez was solid for the TinCaps, not allowing a single run in five innings pitched.
