Padres Down on the Farm: May 20 (Ryan Weathers returns for Fort Wayne, Naylor & Scavuzzo with two homers each)
Ryan Weathers had a brief yet successful return to the mound for the Fort Wayne TinCaps and helped guide them to victory.
The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres went 2-1 on Monday. The Lake Elsinore Storm were off.
Here is a brief recap of the day’s action.

Starting pitcher Jerry Keel pitched 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits. Fortunately for him, the Chihuahuas scored 21 runs on 22 hits to back him up. This included a two-run shot in the first inning off the bat of Josh Naylor and Esteban “Pony” Quiroz cracked a two-run single following the home run. Eight more runs crossed the plate in the second inning, capped off the inning with a three-run home run by AJ Kennedy to give El Paso a three-run lead. The romp continued even when the Isotopes scored runs of their own as Jacob Scavuzzo and Naylor hit three more home runs while Luis Urias and Quiroz both hit two-run doubles.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Lost 5-1 (19-23 on the season)
Four errors and cold bats led to the Sod Poodles falling behind early and being unable to mount a comeback. Amarillo allowed the Hooks to take the lead in the first inning when two walks and an error by Owen Miller led to two walks. A two-out error in the second inning allowed two more unearned runs to score off of T.J. Weir, who only pitched four innings and allowed four unearned runs while walking six batters and striking out four. Amarillo got one run off of Brandon Bielak in the sixth inning when Ivan Castillo lifted a sacrifice fly to score Brad Zunica, but the Hooks got that run right back in the seventh inning.

Ryan Weathers made his return to the mound today also brought a slew of runs scored in support of him. Grant Little kicked the scoring off in the first inning with a double to score Tucapita Marcano. Dwanya Williams-Sutton followed him with an RBI double of his own while Justin Lopez cracked his third home run, a two-run shot, to right field to give Fort Wayne a 4-0 lead.
The only blemish to come off of Weathers was in the second inning when he allowed a two-out RBI single to Levi Jordan, but Weathers didn’t go far in the game. He only pitched 2.2 innings and tossed 47 pitches, but 31 of them were strikes and attributed to three strikeouts. Even after Weathers left, Fort Wayne continued to pile on the runs. Xavier Edwards slapped a two-run double in the fourth inning and Grant Little picked up two more RBI singles in the eighth and ninth innings. Little would go 4-for-5 in the game with three RBI while raising his batting average to .306 on the season.
