Padres Down on the Farm: June 8 (Weathers Pitches for Fort Wayne/Mejia Homers for El Paso)
San Diego Padres affiliates went 2-3 on Saturday.
Here is a recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas (40-22) Lost 7-6
Francisco Mejia hit his fourth homer of the year on Saturday in a 7-6 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers. Andres Munoz blew a save in the ninth as he allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk. The Mexican right-handed pitcher only managed to retire one batter in his outing. Jorge Bonifacio took the pitcher deep for the walk-off win. Left-handed pitcher Dietrich Enns allowed five runs in 5.2 innings pitched. His ERA is up to 5.29 on the season in the PCL. Trevor Megill relieved Enns and threw two shutout innings. Esteban Quiroz slugged his 11th homer of the season, and Ty France went 3-for-5 in the loss. This was a tough loss for El Paso, but they will try to regroup Sunday afternoon against Omaha.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (29-31) Lost 1-0
Christian Javier and Colin McKee shutout the Soddies on Saturday. Amarillo only managed three hits in the game. Ivan Castillo recorded two of the hits himself from the number two soot in the lineup. 12 Amarillo batters struck out in the loss. Kyle Lloyd threw six innings of one-run ball, but it was just not enough for the Sod Poodles. Hudson Potts is still banged up and not playing currently. He should return this coming week. No word on Jorge Ona either as the Cuban outfielder has been on the IL since early last month.

Lake Elsinore Storm (31-29) Won 4-2
The Storm got three runs in the first and did not look back in a 4-2 win over the Lancaster JetHawks. Reiss Knehr got the start and went the first four innings for Lake Elsinore, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. He was relieved by Nick Kuzia who went 2.2 innings for the win and holds a 0.00 ERA in Lake Elsinore. The Storm only managed six hits on the day, but that was enough for the win. Tirso Ornelas went 0-for-2 and has struggled in Lake Elsinore this year. He owns a .617 OPS currently with a 2.18 ERA.

Reiss Knehr– 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K (69 pitches- 45 strikes)
Fort Wayne TinCaps (28-32) Lost 8-4
The TinCaps got a three-inning start from Ryan Weathers on Saturday. He was able to throw 43 pitches and allowed two runs in his three innings of work. Fort Wayne put the ball in play, only striking out five times as a team. They did not get the timely hit though as the team stranded 11 runners on base in the loss. Agustin Ruiz hit his first homer of the season. Blake Hunt went 1-for-4, and Tucupita Marcano went 0-for-5 committing his 10th error of the season on a bad throw. Fort Wayne committed three errors in the loss (Edwards and Lopez).

DSL Padres (4-3) Won 2-0
The DSL Padres team got a great start from 18-year-old Frank Lopez in a 3-0 win over the DSL Reds. Lfeaturesaures a low 90’s fastball with excellent movement. The Dominican right-handed pitcher has a chance to be a real prospect in the system. 21-year-old hard throwing right-handed pitcher Abismael Paulino followed Lopez. The 6-foot-7 pitcher struck out three in three innings of work. The DSL team recorded only five hits in the game, but that was enough for the victory. The young bunch struck out eight times in the game. Jose Velez went 0-for-3 with two punchouts..
