Two catchers had solid days at the plate in the Padres farm system, while a couple of starting pitchers made short starts.

The minor league teams for the San Diego Padres went 4-1 today.

Here is a brief recap of today’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas Won 6-4 (38-21 on the season)

After falling behind 4-0 after the first inning, the Chihuahuas rallied for six runs to snag the win. Logan Allen got hammered in the first inning, allowing a three-run single and another RBI single in the inning before settling down to pitch five more innings of scoreless ball. Esteban Quiroz put the Chihuahuas on the board with his tenth home run of the season, and El Paso continued to chip away at the Cubs’ lead in the coming innings. They finally tied the game on Jose Pirela‘s sixth-inning home run and took the lead for good on Francisco Mejia‘s solo dinger in the eighth inning.

Francisco Mejia: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, Run Scored, 2B

Luis Urias: 1-3, RBI, Run Scored, BB, K, SB

Esteban Quiroz: 1-4, HR, RBI, Run Scored, K

Logan Allen: 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 earned), BB, 4 K (90 pitches-61 strikes) Win

Amarillo Sod Poodles Lost 6-1 (28-29 on the season)

Adrian Morejon pitched just one inning and allowed an unearned run. Jesse Scholtens stepped in for six innings and allowed just two runs while striking out eight batters, but Amarillo’s offense couldn’t get their offense going to support their pitchers. The only run the Sod Poodles got was in the bottom of the third inning when Ivan Castillo hit an RBI groundball out. Amarillo didn’t do themselves or their pitchers any favors by going 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

A.J. Kennedy: 2-4, Run Scored, 2B, K

Ivan Castillo: 1-5, RBI, 2 K

Edward Olivares: 1-3, 2 BB, K, SB, CS

Adrian Morejon: IP, H, R (0 earned), K (14 pitches-9 strikes) Loss

Jesse Scholtens: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, BB, 8 K (98 pitches-67 strikes)

Lake Elsinore Storm Won 7-2 (29-28 on the season)

MacKenzie Gore only pitched two innings in today’s game, but not because of injuries. The Padres are keeping a close eye on his inning count as he is at 55.2 innings pitched after pitching 60.2 last season. However, the offense still came through in spades while the threesome of Elliot Ashbeck, Fred Schlictholz, and Evan Miller pitches seven innings of two-run relief while striking out five as a group. Luis Campusano continues to have a strong season by collecting two RBI and a double. He is now batting .315/.402/.503 at Lake Elsinore, so a promotion to Double-A is imminent.

Luis Campusano: 2-4, 2 RBI, Run Scored, 2B, BB

Esteury Ruiz: 3-4, 2 RBI, 2B, SB

Olivier Basabe: 2-4, HR, RBI, 3 Runs Scored, BB, K

MacKenzie Gore: 2 IP, H, BB, 4 K (41 pitches-24 strikes) No Decision

Elliot Ashbeck: 4 IP, 2 H, R, (0 earned), BB, K (54 pitches-37 strikes) Win

Fort Wayne TinCaps Won 3-2 (28-29 on the season)

Joey Cantillo continued to deal for the TinCaps, as he held the Captains to just one run in six innings while striking out six to lower his ERA to 2.45 on the season. Over his last six starts, he has struck out 40 batters in just 32.1 innings. Fort Wayne scored all the runs they needed in the first two innings. Blake Hunt slapped a single to center field to score Aldemar Burgos in the first inning. The second inning saw Juwan Harris pick up an RBI thanks to a fielder’s choice and Xavier Edwards, who was just moved to the Top 100 prospects list, hit a sacrifice fly to drive home what ended up being the winning run for Fort Wayne.

Blake Hunt: 1-4, RBI, 2 K

Jawuan Harris: 1-3, RBI, 2 SB

Xavier Edwards: 0-3, SF, RBI

Joey Cantillo: 6 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 7 K (79 pitches-54 strikes) Win

Henry Henry: IP, 2 H, R, (12 pitches-7 strikes) Save

DSL Padres Won 6-4 (2-2 on the season)

Three-run outbursts in the second and sixth innings led the DSL Padres to victory over the DSL Blue Jays. The Padres got the scoring started with a two-RBI double from Alex Ramirez and followed it up with an RBI single by Wilfredo Tovar. The Blue Jays took the lead on an RBI double in the sixth inning, but the Padres tied the game with a bases-loaded walk. They retook the lead on a sacrifice fly from Reginald Dowston, and the Padres held on to the lead for the rest of the game.

Alex Ramirez: 1-2, 2 RBI, 2 Runs Scored, 2B, BB, K, SB

Neifi Antunez: 2-4, RBI, K

Wilfredo Tovar: 1-3, 2 RBI, BB

Luis Crisostomo: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 earned), BB, No Decision
