The San Diego Padres minor league affiliates went 2-3 on Saturday. Both AZL squads were off as well as the DSL team.
Here is a brief recap of the day’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas Won 7-0 (56-36 on the season)
It wasn’t a top prospect pitching for the Chihuahuas, but Dillon Overton pitched a solid five innings to lead the Chihuahuas to a victory despite missing Luis Urias from the lineup. Urias has a sore shoulder but should return in a day or so. Esteban Quiroz stepped in nicely in his place, hitting a solo home run in the sixth inning to pad the lead. Jason Vosler collected four RBIs with three coming off a three-run bomb while Michael Gettys and Ty France rounded out the scoring. Kyle Lloyd pitched two shutout innings in his first Triple-A appearance of the season.
Esteban Quiroz: 1-3, HR, RBI, Run Scored, BB, K
Jason Vosler: 1-3, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
Ty France: 3-4, RBI, 2 Runs Scored, 2B
Michael Gettys: 2-4, RBI, Run Scored, 2B
Dillon Overton: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K (87 pitches-58 strikes) Win
Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 9-0 (46-45 on the season)
It was a successful debut for MacKenzie Gore. The top prospect of the Padres farm system showed off his dominant stuff against the Frisco Roughriders, pitching 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball while striking out four. Even with rehabbing Major Leaguers Hunter Pence and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Gore sliced his way through their lineup in his first Double-A start. Michel Baez relieved him in the sixth inning and kept the shutout alive, touching 97 mph while going 1 2/3 innings. Paving the way offensively was Luis Torrens with a three-run home run in the first inning and a 3-for-4 day for Owen Miller. In breaking news, Austin Hartsfield of EVT found out the Jorge Ona has undergone shoulder surgery and he is out for the year. The Cuban outfielder was having the best year of his professional career before going down in early May.

Lake Elsinore Storm Lost 5-3 (46-46 on the season)
Luis Patino got hooked with the loss after giving up two runs in the first two runs, but that doesn’t tell the entire story of his game. After allowing the runs, Patino settled down to pitch six total innings and struck out nine batters while throwing 70% of his pitches for strikes. Eguy Rosario put the Storm on the board with an RBI groundout and picked up his second RBI with a double in the ninth. Olivier Basabe knocked in the third Lake Elsinore run with a groundout, but it wasn’t enough to complete a comeback. Xavier Edwards collected a hit in his seventh straight game, including the games he played when he was Fort Wayne.
Eguy Rosario: 1-4, 2 RBIs, Run Scored, 2B, E
Olivier Basabe: 0-3, RBI, BB, K, E

Luis Patino: 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 9 K (95 pitches-66 strikes)
Fort Wayne TinCaps Lost 5-4 (40-50)
Fort Wayne took an early lead against the LumberKings with two runs in the third and a two-run single by Michael Curry. Efrain Conteras kept the game close in his four innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings while striking out six batters. However, the LumberKings stormed back in the seventh inning off of Cody Tyler as two doubles, and two errors brought home the go-ahead and eventual winning runs. The TinCaps went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position while committing four errors in the game.
Michael Curry: 1-3, 2 RBI, BB, K
Agustin Ruiz: 1-4, RBI,

Tri-City Dust Devils Lost 4-0 (14-15)
Whereas El Paso and Amarillo got shutout victories, Tri-City was on the receiving end of a shutout. The Dust Devils only picked up three singles and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Angel Acevedo allowed all four Spokane runs to score in the four innings he pitched to be hit with the loss. Ramon Perez and Tom Colletti four combined innings of shutout relief, with Perez striking out six and Colletti punching out three. Jonny Homza got a single and threw out a runner behind the plate.
