Padres Down on the Farm: August 25 (Bolanos stellar for Amarillo/Campusano two hits for LE)

The DSL season is officially over. San Diego Padres affiliates went 4-3 on Sunday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (77-55) Won 6-0

The Chihuahuas won 6-0 against the Sacramento River Cats. Dillon Overton threw six shutout innings, striking out five batters in the process. The lefty has a 5.76 ERA on the season in the PCL. Steven Wilson got the last six outs in the win. He has a 3.13 ERA so far for the Chihuahuas. Jason Vosler went deep for his 20th homer of the season. The corner infielder has now hit 20 homers in three straight minor league seasons. Matt Batten took a night away from the mound to play second base and went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the victory.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (69-61) Won 5-2

The Soddies won 5-2 against the Arkansas Travelers on Sunday. Ronald Bolanos was terrific on the mound, throwing six shutout innings. He struck out eight in the game and has a 4.16 ERA on the season in the Texas League. Bolanos is still topping out in the upper 90’s with his velocity, which is a pleasant surprise. David Bednar earned his 14th save of the season by recording the last three outs of the game. Ivan Castillo homered for the eighth time of the year and has a .804 OPS. Luis Torrens continues to hit well as he went 2-for-3 in the game and has a .848 OPS on the year. Amarillo was 3-for-10 in the game with runners in scoring position.

Lake Elsinore Storm (69-61) Lost 8-3

The Storm lost on the road to the Lancaster JetHawks by the score of 8-3 on Sunday. Lake Elsinore totaled ten hits in the game but went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Luis Campusano went 2-for-5 in the game and has a .897 OPS on the year. Jack Suwinski went 2-for-4 on Sunday and is hitting .281 (10-for-32) in his last ten games. Elliot Ashbeck made a start and went five innings pitched for the Storm. He allowed four earned runs and now has a 3.01 ERA on the season in the Cal League.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (58-72) Lost 4-2

The TinCaps lost a close game 4-2 in Western Michigan on Sunday. Edwuin Bencomo pitched well, only allowing one run on five hits. The 20-year-old right-handed pitcher from Venezuela has a 3.69 ERA on the season in 13 games at Fort Wayne. Jose Quezada was charged with the loss , as he allowed three earned runs in one inning of relief. Henry Henry threw two shutout innings and has a 3.39 ERA this season. Agustin Ruiz and Ripken Reyes both went 2-for-4 in the loss. Reyes is off to a .308 start in his first taste of Midwest League baseball.

Tri-City Dust Devils (33-36) Won 4-2

The Dust Devils won a close game 4-2 on Sunday against the Boise Hawks. 23-year-old Connor Lehmann threw two shutout innings to start the game. He has a 2.63 ERA on the season for Tri-City. Jason Reynolds relived him and went four innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five. He lowered his ERA to 9.26 on the year. Deacon Medders recorded his fourth save of the year getting the last three out of the game. Jordy Barley went 2-for-3 in the win and has a .757 OPS on the year.

AZL Padres 1 (31-23) Lost 11-3

The AZL Padres 1 team lost 11-3 on Sunday. Frank Lopez started the game, and the 18-year-old from Venezuela was let down by his defense. The right-handed pitcher allowed seven runs (two earned) in four innings of work. The Padres committed six errors in the game. Yordi Francisco led all the hitters with a 2-for-3 day at the plate in the loss. Joshua Mears went 1-for-3 and has a .771 OPS so far this season.

AZL Padres 2 (38-17) Won 16-11

The AZL Padres 2 beat the AZL White Sox by the score of 16-11. The Padres pounded out 14 hits in the win, and every player in the starting nine scored a run. Taylor Lomack went 4-for-6 and is now hitting .343 on the season with a .809 OPS. Luis Almanzar, Jared Alvarez-Lopez, and Cristian Heredia all homered for the Padres. The bullpen was roughed up a bit as they turned a 16-3 game into a 16-11 final score. Fernando Sanchez was roughed up for six runs (three earned) in two innings pitched. Bodi Rascon continues to pitch phenomenally as he went three scoreless innings for the Padres. He has yet to allow a run this season.
