Padres Down on the Farm: August 16 (Potts homers in Amarillo/Gettys hits 30th HR for El Paso)

San Diego Padres affiliates were 2-6 on Friday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events.

El Paso Chihuahuas (72-51) Lost 12-5

El Paso lost to the Salt Lake Bees by the score of 12-5 on Friday. Dietrich Enns was shelled in the first inning as he allowed six earned runs and was only able to get two out in the innings. Four relievers came in for Enns, but Kyle McGrath and Robert Stock both allowed multiple runs in their appearances. Travis Radke threw two scoreless innings, and the lefty now has a 3.43 ERA on the season. Michael Gettys hit his 30th homer of the year, and Austin Allen went 2-for-3 in the loss. Allen has a .982 OPS this year in the PCL.

Amarillo Sod Poodles (65-57) Lost 11-4

The Soddies lost 11-4 to Frisco on Friday night. The game got out of hand late as Frisco scored five runs in the 7th to take the commanding lead. Carlos Belen allowed four runs in two innings pitched for Amarillo. A.J. Kennedy even pitched for the Sod Poodles, throwing a scoreless 9th and even striking out a batter. Not too bad for the backup catcher/first baseman. Luis Torrens hit his 12th homer of the season, and he now has a .834 OPS. Hudson Potts went deep for the second game in a row and now has 14 on the year in the Texas League. Ivan Castillo went 2-for-4 and is still leading the league in hitting with a .318 average.

Lake Elsinore Storm (63-59) Lost 5-1

Lake Elsinore fell to the Stokton Ports by the score of 5-1 on Friday. Aaron Leasher pitched well in the loss, allowing two earned runs in six innings pitched. He has a 3.13 ERA now in the Cal League with a 10-7 record. Jack Suwinski homered for the Storm’s only run in the game. It was the outfielders 11th of the season. Allen Cordoba went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot and has a .778 OPS on the season for Lake Elsinore.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (55-66) Lost 19-1

The TinCaps were pounded by Lansing to the score of 19-1 on Friday. Two infielders pitched for the TinCaps in a game that got out of hand after an eight-run 6th inning. Cullen Dana was knocked around for five earned runs in four innings pitched. Infielder, Tyler Benson allowed five earned runs in 2/3 of an inning pitched. Infielder Kelvin Alarcon had to come in and get the last out of the game for the TinCaps. Fort Wayne managed nine hits in the game but were1-for8 with runners in scoring position.

The Dust Devils lost 8-5 to the Everett AquaSox in 11 innings. Robert Perez hit a three-run homer for Everett to walk-off. Deacon Medders was saddled with the loss as he allowed the homer. Ethan Elliott started the game and went three innings, allowing only two hits. He has a 1.95 ERA on the season.  Jordy Barley went 2-for-5 and has a .773 OPS this year in Tri-City.

AZL Padres 1 (28-19) Lost 6-5

The AZL Padres 1 squad dropped a close game to the AZL Indians Blue team Friday night in Peoria. Edgar Martinez started the game and went 3 2/3 innings for the Padres.  The 18-year old Cuban right-handed pitcher now has a 3.83 ERA in 10 games for the team. Andrew Dean threw three innings in relief and allowed just one run while striking out four. He has a 2.05 ERA so far in the desert. Yerry Landinez walked four times in the loss while Brandon Valenzuela went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs.

AZL Padres 2 (32-16) Won 4-2

The AZL Padres 2 team stayed hot in a 4-2 win over the AZL Brewers Gold team. 20-year-old Gabriel Morales, a left-handed pitcher from Venezuela is impressing in the AZL. He has a 1.85 ERA in starts for the Padres. Eudi Asencio vulture the win after pitching two innings of relief and blowing the lead. He is 2-1 with a 7.23 ERA this season in Arizona. Blake Baker, a 20-year-old right-handed pitcher, earned his 6th save of the year, pitching a perfect 9th. Lusi Almanzar went 2-for-3 in the win and is starting to swing the bat better. Taylor Lomack also went 2-for-3 and is hitting .366 (10-for-41) in his last ten games.

DSL Padres (30-35) Won 17-4

The DSL Padres won big on Friday by the score of 17-4 over the DSL White Sox. The Padres only managed eight hits in the game, but White Sox’ pitching surrendered 16 walks on the day. The bottom four players in the Padres lineup walked ten times. Jairo Iriarte started the game and went four innings. The 17-year-old right-handed pitcher from Venezuela has a 3.86 ERA on the season. Jonfy Diaz was awarded the win after throwing three perfect innings. The 22-year-old left-handed pitcher has a 1.89 ERA in 16 games for the Padres this season. 17-year-old catcher, Wilfredo Tovar continues to be impressive in the DSL. He is playing sporadically but has put up a .997 OPS.
