New look Padres shutout Rockies 6-0 to win series

The San Diego Padres held the Colorado Rockies to zero runs Monday night and defeated the NL West rivals 6-0 behind dominant pitching.
Before the game, general manager A.J. Preller and the Padres sent shockwaves through the league when they completed six different trades with five different teams. Headlining the deals was former Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger and former Royals closer, Trevor Rosenthal.
Three of the new additions made their Padres debut Monday night, and it paid off right away. Former Mariner Austin Nola started at catcher and went 1-for-3 with a walk in his debut. Former Red Sox Mitch Moreland went hitless 0-for-4 but started at first base.
Rosenthal came in for relief in the ninth inning for the Friars. He struck out Matt Kemp and Ryan McMahon to finish off the game.

San Diego finished with nine hits and got the scoring started early as Fernando Tatis Jr. tripled to center in the third inning, scoring Nola and Jurickson Profar.
Back-to-back National League Player of the Week Manny Machado hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Tatis, and the Padres led 3-0 after three.

Wil Myers followed with a solo home run in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Another three-straight base runners for the Padres led to Jake Cronenworth scoring on Profar’s infield single. The score was 5-0, and the Padres were starting to run away with it.

Garrett Richards started for San Diego after two previous rough starts. He only allowed one hit in 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. He was removed early on, and lefty Adrian Morejon replaced him and went on to pitch 3.0 scoreless innings.
It was an overall smooth pitching performance for the Padres as they only allowed seven hits in the hitter-friendly Coors Field in Denver.
San Diego won the series 3-1 (4-3 in season-series) and improved to 22-15 on the season. They remain in second place in the NL West division.
The Friars have the day off Tuesday. They then travel two hours north to Anaheim to take on the Angels on Wednesday and Thursday. Dinelson Lamet is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m.

I would like for you to have included our team ERA for the series. The four runs Davies gave up were unearned. In other games, a few more unearned runs were given to the Rockies. Walking away with three wins was huge. It put two more games between us. The rest of the games we held the Rockies to but a few earned runs at Coors field! That’s impressive!
