In this edition, both Patrick and I were excited to sit down and speak with a true San Diego Padres legend. Mark Grant joined our show and we talked some Padres baseball with Mud.

He is quickly becoming one of the Padres most treasured possessions. His style of broadcasting is like no other and Padres fans wouldn’t have it any other way. When you sit down and watch or listen to a Padres game, you know exactly who is broadcasting the game. His voice and style are unique and we as Padres fans are excited for the future with Mud and newcomer Don Orsillo.

We specifically talk about the Padres in 2016 and the changes that have occurred over the last year. Mud has some interesting comments regarding the team and the philosophy they are trying to achieve. Andy Green and A.J. Preller and what they bring to the table is also discussed to great extent. We ask Mud’s opinion on the recent Tim Flannery rant as he gives his insight on to what his former teammate was thinking.

Having played for the Braves, we learn a little bit about the preparation behind John Smoltz and Tom Glavine from Mark Grant. He also speaks about the lives of Tony Gwynn and Jerry Coleman and the lasting legacy they created in San Diego. Both are greatly missed and it was nice hearing Mark’s feelings on each.

Mark talks about Daren Balsley and we discuss how different Mud’s career would have been under the tutelage of Daren Balsley. Mark hasn’t pitched batting practice for the teams for quite a few years and we here at EVT are going to work on getting that done.

We have some laughs with Mud as he describes some awkward moments as well as get some insight behind all of his sayings. Learning a little more about what makes Mark tick was very enlightening. The podcast was an absolute pleasure to do and we wish to thank Mark Grant for his time. He is the man!
