The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 2-6.

Here is a recap of the day’s action.

El Paso Chihuahuas (50-42) Lost Game 1 7-3

In a seven inning game, the Chihuahuas fell behind early and never caught up as they dropped Game 1 of a doubleheader. Starter Chris Huffman had a game to forget, allowing five runs to score in his five innings pitched while surrendering two home runs. Dusty Coleman and Cory Spangenberg hit solo home runs for the team while Matt Szczur contributed with a sacrifice fly.

El Paso Chihuahuas (50-43) Lost Game 2 4-1

Despite scoring first thanks to bases-loaded walk, the Chihuahuas dropped Game 2 of the doubleheader and lost their third game in a row. An Allen Craig walk in the fifth inning allowed Javy Guerra to score from third base and give El Paso a one-run advantage. Colin Rea pitched well in five innings, striking out four and walking two in a scoreless effort. It was Erik Johnson who blew the lead for El Paso, allowing four runs to score in his one inning of work, and he was tagged with the loss and blown save.

San Antonio Missions (53-38) Lost 8-4

It was another tough game for Cal Quantrill as the former first-round pick couldn’t get past the fifth inning and has continued to struggle at the Double-A level. The right-hander surrendered seven runs on ten hits in only four innings of work after pitching two scoreless innings. The San Antonio offense, without Buddy Reed or Fernando Tatis Jr. stalled out until Austin Allen‘s two-run home run put the Missions on the board. The Missions would add another run in the ninth on a two-out home run by Josh Naylor, but Allen flew out to end the game for the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm (44-50) Won 11-4

The Storm brought out the bats today in a game where they compiled eleven runs on nineteen hits and seven extra base hits. Ruddy Giron exploded for a five-hit performance that included three doubles and two doubles while Luis Torrens, Allen Cordoba and Hudson Potts had three RBI each. The offense picked up a shaky outing from starter Emmanuel Ramirez, who pitched six innings while allowing three runs. Elliot Ashbeck pitched three innings for a three inning save, striking out three in the process.

Fort Wayne TinCaps (44-48) Lost 4-0

The TinCaps could only muster up five hits against the Peoria Chiefs’ pitching and absorbed their third straight loss. Aaron Leasher allowed a sacrifice fly in the third inning, then immediately followed that up by allowing a three-run home run to Elehuris Moreno. Leasher went on to pitch two more innings, but was tagged with the loss as his offense failed to provide him with any run support. Jack Suwinski was the only TinCap to have an extra base-hit with his double in the seventh inning.

Tri-City Dust Devils (13-16) Lost 7-6

In an eleven inning thriller, the Dust Devils rallied from three runs down in the ninth to tie the game, but ultimately dropped the game in extra innings. Tre Carter‘s RBI double in the ninth inning tied the game at 4-4 and forced the game into extra innings. The Dust Devils scored once in both the tenth and eleven innings on a RBI single from Owen Miller and a passed ball that scored Kelvin Alarcon, but the Hillsboro Hops refused to lie down and walked off on a Ryan Tufts single off of Nick Kuzia in the bottom of the eleventh inning.

AZL Padres 2 (10-11) Lost to the AZL Padres 1 (7-12) 4-0

Both Arizona League Padres’ squads duked it out and the Padres 1 pitching trio of Omar Cruz, Tom Colletti and Reiss Knehr limited the Padres 2 team to no runs on three hits. Greg Lambert had his first home run on the season for the Padres 1 while Lee Solomon picked up two RBI. Tucupita Moreno continued his torrid hot streak by picking up two more hits and raising his batting average to .386 on the season.
