Down on the Farm: August 30- Lucchesi Flawless as Hudson Potts & Fernando Perez Have Huge Nights

The San Diego Padres were 5-1 on Wednesday night. The AZL Padres 2 team was off.
In El Paso, the Chihuahuas won a wild one 9-8 in 14 innings as Chase d’Arnaud hit a walk-off single with one out. Hunter Renfroe tied the game at eight in the ninth inning as he blasted a 2-run home run off Jumbo Diaz. El Paso had 20 hits on the night as Travis Jankowski recorded four from the top of the order. Hunter Renfore and Diego Goris each had three hits, and Christian Villanueva, Chase d’Arnaud, Rafael Ortega, and Rocky Gale each accomplished two hits on the night for the Chihuahuas.
The Missions continued their winning ways, as the team was victorious 5-3 over Midland. Nick Schultz was the offensive star and Joey Lucchesi threw six scoreless innings, lowering his season ERA to 1.79. The left-handed pitcher has made great strides since his promotion to Double-A. Schultz hit his 14th home run of the season, driving in two for the Missions. Josh Naylor, Franmil Reyes, and Noah Perio recorded two hits as well, and Nick Torres went 3-5 with two RBI. The team is rounding into form with the playoffs in sight.
The Storm beat Modesto 12-6 as Michael Gettys and Fernando Perez had excellent offensive games. Perez went deep twice and now has 10 on the season. The infielder is from Otay Ranch high school and has really picked it up since being demoted from San Antonio. Jerry Keel made the start for Lake Elsinore and went 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits.
Hudson Potts drove in all seven runs for the TinCaps as they beat Great Lakes 7-5 on Wednesday night. The young infielder slugged two home runs in his first two at bats of the game. Ronald Bolanos earned the victory in relief of Reggie Lawson. Bolanos went two scoreless innings after Lawson was roughed up in his four innings of work (7 hits/5 ER). Hansel Rodriguez threw a perfect ninth for his 10th save of the year. Nate Easley, Jack Suwinski, and Marcus Greene Jr. all had two hits each for Fort Wayne. Former San Diego State outfielder, Tyler Adkison, went 0-4 with four K’s, so everything was not perfect in Indiana.

The Dust Devils lost 2-0 as the team could not get anything going offensively. The team struck out 13 times and only managed six hits on the night. Luis Asuncion recorded two if them. The outfielder has been impressive all year for Tri-City. Luis Almanzar went 0-4 with three K’s as the offensive-minded shortstop still is battling with plate recognition. He is only batting .232 on the season, but at the age of 17, there no reason to be overly concerned.
In Arizona, Mackenzie Gore was uncharacteristically wild, as he walked three batters and allowed two hits in his 1.1 innings pitched. He threw 25 pitches on the night and allowed one earned run while striking out three batters. Luis Campusano and Dayon Olmo each recorded two hits for the Padres. Erick Aybar made an appearance in the AZL, as the veteran shortstop went 0-2 with an RBI and a walk on the night.
