The minor league affiliates for the San Diego Padres were 1-4 on Monday.

Here is a recap of the day’s events:

Fort Wayne TinCaps (59-65) Lost 5-4

MacKenzie Gore struggled in his start today and led to Fort Wayne dropping the series to Lansing. Fort Wayne actually took a four-run lead in the second, with the rally getting sparked by an RBI single by Jalen Washington. A Nick Feight double play brought home Gabriel Arias, while Aledmar Burgos blasted a two-run home run to complete the rally. The dinger was Burgos’ first of the season as a TinCap. However, Gore’s line of six hits and four runs through three and two-thirds innings put Lansing right back in the game, and a sacrifice fly off of Evan Miller pushed the go-ahead run across.

Aldemar Burgos: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R, K

Jalen Washington: 2-4, RBI, 2 K

Jack Suwinski: 2-4, 3B, K

Gabriel Arias: 1-4, 2B, R

MacKenzie Gore: 3 2/3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (86 pitches-51 strikes) No Decision

Tri-City Dust Devils (29-33) Won 10-2

After a long stretch of losing and bad baseball, the Dust Devils have started to turn things around and, with today’s win, won their fourth game in a row. The offense benefited from two Vancouver errors that allowed four unearned runs to cross the plate, but that didn’t stop Tri-City hitters from picking up RBI. Tre Carter collected three RBI for the team, while Justin Paulsen had two on the night. Starter Adrian Martinez pitched a dandy of a game, pitching six innings of two-run ball while walking one and punching out 10 batters. Cole Bellinger made a scoreless relief appearance, pitching three innings and striking out two while walking three.

Tre Carter: 1-2, 3 RBI, BB

Justin Paulsen: 2-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2B, BB, 2 K

Grant Little: 2-5, R

Xavier Edwards: 1-3, 2 R, 2B, BB, K

Adrian Martinez: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 10 K (92 pitches-61 strikes) Win

AZL Padres 1 (24-25) Lost 11-6

An epic four run-rally in the bottom of the ninth was not enough to come back and beat the AZL Dodgers, as Padres pitching allowed an eight-run seventh inning. Much of the damage came against Dalton Erb and Jake Sims, who combined to pitch four innings and allowed nine runs (six earned) on nine hits, striking out five and walking two. It was Gilberto Vizcarra who brought the Padres closer in the ninth inning, hitting a grand slam to put the Padres back in the game. However, the rest of the batters would not replicate the same success and each, with the exception of Juwan Harris’ double, went down without putting up much of a fight.

Gilberto Vizcarra: 1-4, HR, 4 RBI, R, 2 K

Jaquez Williams: 2-3, 2 RBI, R, BB, K, E

Jawaun Harris: 3-5, 2 2B, K, CS

Lee Solomon: 2-4, R, K

Jeferson Garcia: 3 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 3 K  No Decision

AZL Padres 2 Game 1 (23-25) Lost 2-0

In the first game of a doubleheader, the Padres wasted strong pitching performances from Jean Cosme and Gabriel Morales as the offense managed only five hits in the game. Cosme pitched three innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two, while Morales tossed four innings of scoreless ball, allowing a single hit while walking two and striking out three. However, the offense was unable to shift past first gear and stalled out when the team needed them the most.

Elvis Sabala: 3-3

Mason House: 1-2, BB

Jean Cosme: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K  Loss

Gabriel Morales: 4 IP, H, 2 BB, 3 K

AZL Padres 2 Game 2 (23-26) Lost 1-0

After collecting six hits in the first game of the doubleheader, the Padres managed only one hit on a single by Elvis Sabala while wasting another great pitching performance from their starter. Trent Shelton lowered his ERA to 2.73 by allowing one run in four innings pitched, but the one run was enough to tag him with the loss. Mason Fox pitched two innings of scoreless relief, but the little damage that had been done was enough to sink the Padres.

Elvis Sabala: 1-2, BB, K

Trent Shelton: 4 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 5 K

Mason Fox: 2 IP, H, 3 K

  1. using that background was a poor choice. Near impossible to read the text. You have to highlight to be able to read, or copy and paste onto a word doc (and I have good eyes!)

    1. Of course as soon as I wrote that comment, the article changed from a petco park picture background, to all gray. All set now..
