Down on the Farm: April 26th (Chihuahuas win eighth straight game, Suwinski double lifts Storm to victory)

The minor league affiliates of the San Diego Padres went (3-1) today
Here is a recap of today’s events.
El Paso Chihuahuas Won 8-6 (14-7 on the season)
The eighth straight victory for the Chihuahuas was never in doubt after a six-run outburst in the first inning catapulted them into the lead and, eventually, to victory.
Two fielding errors assisted in the effort today, as the first one allowed Josh Naylor to reach first base safely and scored Michael Gettys. A single and a walk later loaded the bases up for Connor Panas, who was acquired from the Blue Jays in exchange for Clayton Richard. In his first game of the Triple-A season, Panas cleared the bases with a grand slam that put El Paso up front big time. Another fielding gaffe cost the Aviators yet another run and staked Cal Quantrill to a six-run lead.
Quantrill held strong for 4.2 innings, allowing two runs while walking three batters and striking out five. However, both times the Aviators scored against Quantrill, it was off the long ball. Las Vegas continued to score runs in the game and came close to tying it up, but an extra insurance run in the fourth inning provided by an Austin Allen sacrifice fly ensured the Chihuahuas walked away as winners.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 6-2 (10-12 on the season)
While Arkansas took an early lead at the beginning of the game, a three-run third inning pushed the Sod Poodles over the top to win the first game of the series against the Travelers.
Reggie Lawson ran into trouble early in the game after allowing a solo home run. Jorge Ona tied the game with a sacrifice fly, but Arkansas retook the lead against Lawson on another solo dinger in the next inning. Once again, the Sod Poodles rallied to tie the game back up and this time, take the lead in the top of the third inning. The scoring started on an RBI double by Rodrigo Orozco, who later scored on a Luis Torrens double play. With two outs in the inning, Hudson Potts gave Amarillo an insurance run with an RBI single.
Lawson settled down to toss three more scoreless innings and striking out nine throughout five innings before handing the game off to his bullpen, who shut the Travellers down for the rest of the game. RBI singles by Edward Olivares and Torrens pushed the Amarillo run total to six and lead the Poodles to victory.

Lake Elsinore Storm Won 2-1 (11-11 on the season)
Lake Elsinore was locked in combat with Inland Empire for a majority of the game and held on long enough to swipe the lead in the seventh inning and win the game on the strength of Ronald Bolanos’s start and three shutout innings from the bullpen.
The 66ers immediately took the lead in the first inning after two wild pitches from Bolanos allowed a run to cross. It was the only blemish on an otherwise spectacular performance from Bolanos, who logged six innings of one-run ball while walking a single batter and striking out six.
The Storm were held scoreless all the way up until the seventh inning when Jack Suwinski dropped a double into center field to drive home Eguy Rosario and Jalen Washington for the tying and winning runs.

Fort Wayne TinCaps Lost 7-4 (11-10 on the season)
The TinCaps fell behind early and couldn’t come back against South Bend to drop their third game in five days.
Fort Wayne took the lead early in the game after a wild pitch uncorked by Faustino Carrera, but it was the only run the team scored until the eighth inning. The Cubs roared back to life in the bottom of the third inning against Joey Cantillo for four runs, but it was Cantillo’s lack of control that failed him as he walked four batters in the inning around two singles. Cantillo didn’t escape the inning as Dan Dallas who, after a wild pitch allowed the fourth run to score, got out of the inning with a strikeout. The Cubs continued to chip runs across the board in the fifth and seventh innings.
Fort Wayne rallied the offense in the eighth inning on an Agustin Ruiz RBI double that got them just a bit closer. Five straight walks in the top of the ninth inning allowed two runs to cross the plate, but three straight outs after the fifth and final walk to Xavier Edwards finished the TinCaps off.
