San Diego Padres’ affiliates were 3-1 on Saturday as only the Lake Elsinore Storm lost.

Here is a recap of the day’s action:

El Paso Chihuahuas (16-7) Won 7-2

A five-run fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie for the Chihuahuas, as they won 7-2 at home against the Salt Lake Bees on Saturday. Diego Goris hit a big three-run homer and El Paso was able to add a few more insurance runs off the Bees’ relief pitchers. Brett Kennedy was solid on the day, going 5.2 innings and only allowing one earned run. Raffy Lopez hit a homer in the fourth inning and Cory Spangenberg made his Triple-A debut, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts. Trey Wingenter earned the win out of the pen as he threw a scoreless inning and was consistently clocked in the high 90’s with his fastball. El Paso will look to win the series on Sunday against the Bees.

Travis Jankowski– (2-3) 2 BB, Run

Raffy Lopez- (2-3) HR, 2 Runs, 2 RBI, BB

Diego Goris- (2-3) HR, 3 RBI, Run

Nick Schulz– (2-4) Run

Brett Kennedy- 5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 9 K (109 pitches- 68 strikes)

San Antonio Missions (13-9) Won 4-2

The Missions’ bullpen continues to be a huge strength. Miguel Diaz is being stretched out by the Padres. On his starts, it is a “bullpen day” meaning that multiple relieves will be needed to make it through a game. The Missions’ pitchers responded once again on Saturday as Jason Jester, Eric Yardley, and Robert Stock were all effective. Only Erik Johnson allowed a few runs in his two innings of relief for San Antonio. The hitting star was Austin Allen, who continues to rake in the Texas League. The catcher/first baseman is now hitting .333 on the year after blasting his eighth homer of the young season on Saturday. Michael Gettys also hit a solo shot in the contest as the Missions won 4-2 against the RockHounds.

Austin Allen (2-4) HR, 2b, 2 Runs, RBI, K

Michael Gettys (1-3) HR, RBI, Run 2 K

Forrestt Allday (2-3)

Fernando Tatis Jr. (0-2) 2 BB, Run, K

Miguel Diaz 3 IP, 2 BB, 3 K (55 pitches- 32 strikes)

Lake Elsinore Storm (9-14) Lost 11-3

The Storm were beat up pretty bad by the Ports on Saturday night. Lake Elsinore allowed 10 hits and walked eight in the 11-3 loss to Stockton. Lake Bachar had an excellent 0.45 ERA entering the game, but was not his normal self. He walked four in the game and was the victim of some bad defense on the day. The Storm’ bullpen threw gasoline on the fire as Ronald Bolanos allowed four earned runs in his 2.2 innings of relief. Edward Olivares went 2-for-4 and Buddy Reed stole three bases on the day for the Storm. Lake Elsinore will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday as Michel Baez is on the mound in the final game of the quick homestand.

Edward Olivares (2-4) 2b, Run, K

Buddy Reed (2-4) 3 SB’s, Run, K

Hudson Potts (0-3) Run, RBI, SB, K

Luis Torrens (1-4) 2 RBI, K

Lake Bachar 3.1 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K (61 pitches- 32 strikes)

Fort Wayne TinCaps (10-13) Won 10-1

Right-handed pitcher Emmanuel Ramirez was on the bump for the TinCaps and he was blessed with plenty of run support. Fort Wayne scored in each of their first four innings to jump out to 7-0 lead. They never looked back, taking the contest 10-1 over the Dragons. After a slow start, the team in Fort Wayne is heating up. Offensively, there were a few stars for the team. Esteury Ruiz, Jeisson Rosario, Carlos Belen, Justin Lopez, Reinaldo Ilarraza, and Jalen Washington all had multiple hits on the day as the TinCaps totaled 14 hits off Dayton pitching. Tirso Ornelas (0-4) 3 K’s and Jack Suwinski (0-5) 2 K’s did struggle in the game, so all wasn’t roses for the TinCaps.

Esteury Ruiz (3-5) RBI, 2 Runs, BB, 2 SB’s, K, Error

Jeisson Rosario (2-4) 2 BB, 2 Runs, SB, K

Carlos Belen (2-3) 2 RBI, 3 BB, SB, K

Justin Lopez (2-5) 2b, Run, RBI, K

Emannuel Ramirez (Win) 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 10 K (93 pitches- 63 strikes)

  1. I’m excited to see what Miguel Díaz is doing … my initial impression of him in San Diego last year was very positive. He’s a real prospect.
