Jason Verrett

San Diego Chargers fans have only seen glimpses of what Jason Verrett brings to the table. Injuries have limited him to just 18 starts over the past two seasons. In that time though Chargers fans have seen a shut-down corner back who has shown an uncanny knack for positioning himself correctly and being in the right place at the right time. Verrett truly looks like a seasoned veteran out on the field.

At the age of 24 we have truly yet to see the best from this young man. The graduate of TCU is already being recognized among his peers in the NFL as a player to watch out for. He limits opposing teams number one receivers consistently and is never afraid to take on new challenges. The Chargers had an opportunity to select Jalen Ramsey out of FSU with their third pick, but choose to select Bosa instead. The team has tons of confidence in Verrett and they decided that a second corner back was not needed.

Like most of the Chargers on this list injuries are a big factor for Verrett. He needs to stay on the field. The team cannot afford to have him banged up and missing more games. His injuries have all been unrelated so you must have the confidence that he will be able to perform in the 2016 season without any problems. Verrett is out to prove something this coming season and you should see a well motivated man in the Chargers defensive backfield.

In 14 games last season for the Bolts, Verrett recorded 46 tackles and three interceptions. Not eye-popping numbers but in reality opposing teams were picking on Brandon Flowers all year long and Verrett was shutting everyone down. A great cornerback will have very few INT’s or tackles simply because the opposing teams’ QB refuses to throw their way. Verrett should be huge for the Chargers in 2016 and a pro-bowl could be in his future.
