Coors Field- Denver Colorado
After a 10-8 free-for-all on Friday to start the three-game series, the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies battled to an 11-10 game on Saturday in which the Padres fell despite scoring five runs in the 8th. Twenty-two runs and 22 hits in this typical Coors Field special.
Eric Lauer has been pounded in his time against the Rockies, and Saturday was no different. Lauer was 0-3 with an 8.75 ERA in six career starts against the Rockies coming into the game. He would only last 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. He only threw 61 pitches in the game. “A lot of pitched in the middle of the plate,” Andy Green said after the game about Lauer. “He needs to execute.”
Luis Perdomo relieved Lauer and coughed up three runs in 1.2 innings pitched. Gerardo Reyes and Trey Wingenter also gave up a run in their efforts on Saturday. David Bednar was the only bright spot on the day as he pitched a perfect 8th inning for the Padres. He has yet to allow a run this season in seven appearances.
Offensively, the Padres fell behind 9-2 after three innings and played catch up all day.
Josh Naylor went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Greg Garcia went 0-for-2 out of the leadoff spot, but he did walk three times and score two runs. Eric Hosmer went 1-for-2 in the game and was ejected in the 5th inning by third base umpire Carlos Torres after Hosmer made an out in the inning and was running back to the dugout. Andy Green came out to defend his player and was ejected as well. “Obviously, there was frustration there,” Green told the media. Apparently, Hosmer was ejected for using the word “terrible” multiple times towards the young umpire. Green was not happy after the game.

Manny Machado hit a massive three-run homer in the 8th inning that brought the Padres within one. But that was as close as they came in the game. The team got a one-out walk from Josh Naylor in the 9th inning, but a Luis Urias groundball turned into a double play ended the game for Colorado. “We had good fight again,” Green said after the game.
