Luis Campusano had a fantastic year in Lake Elsinore for the 2019 season, and he is your EVT minor league player of the year.

The San Diego Padres have catching depth. Both at the major league level and in the minor league level, the Friars have plenty of options behind the plate.

Luis Campusano might be the best option eventually, and he is your EVT minor league position player of the year.

Apologies to Ty France, Edward Olivares and CJ Abrams who were all worthy of consideration for this award. The production from Campusano could not be ignored, especially since he is regarded as a defensive wizard at catcher. A position that is very hard on your body.

The 2nd-round pick in the 2017 draft out of high school wasted no time in establishing himself within the system. Campusano recorded a .732 OPS in 134 at-bats in the AZL as an 18-year-old first-year professional.

In 2018, with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, Campusano recorded a .710 OPS in 260 at-bats in the Midwest League. The season was a learning experience for the catcher, and he took the knowledge from the struggles in 2018 with him to Lake Elsinore to improve.

While in the Cal League this year, Campusano recorded a .906 OPS in 422 at-bats with the Storm. He slugged the ball at a .509 rate and walked nearly as many times as he struck out (52/57). The right-handed hitter has taken huge offensive strides and looks poised to be a major prospect for years to come.

Luis Campusano is currently playing for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.

He should start the 2020 season in Amarillo and is very close to making a major league debut with the San Diego Padres.
