The minor league affiliates of the San Diego Padres went 6-2 on Saturday.

El Paso Chihuahuas Lost 5-3 (66-46)
For the first time in a long time, Bryan Mitchell had a good start, but it wasn’t enough for an El Paso win. Mitchell threw five innings of one-run ball, struck out five batters, and didn’t issue a free pass for the first time since June 16th. Ty France had another strong game by going 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and an RBI double. Robbie Erlin and Tyler Higgins both allowed two runs in their respective relief appearances. The game was still played despite the recent tragedy that occurred in El Paso.

Amarillo Sod Poodles Won 7-4 (58-51)
Six of the seven of the runs for Amarillo came thanks to the long ball. Owen Miller, Luis Torrens, Hudson Potts, and Peter Van Gansen all went yard for the Soddies while Miller also had an RBI single in the third inning and later scored on Torrens’ home run. Jesse Scholtens pitched five innings and allowed all four runs to score, but he still picked up the win thanks to the explosion of offense. Kazuhisa Makita, Evan Miller, and David Bednar combined to pitched four innings of shutout relief.

Lake Elsinore Storm Lost 1-0 (58-53)
Today’s game between the Storm and the Ports was the definition of a pitcher’s duel. Unfortunately, Caleb Boushely came out on the wrong end of the duel as the one run he allowed in seven innings of work gave him a hard-earned loss. Three Ports pitchers combined to pitch a four-hit shutout. All four Lake Elsinore hits were singles. Jose Castillo pitched an inning of scoreless relief and struck out the side on 14 pitches.

Fort Wayne TinCaps Won 7-4 (49-60)
Fort Wayne collected 14 hits as a team which led to their seven runs. Leadoff hitter Tucapita Marcano went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, giving him a .290 batting average on the season. Dwanya Williams-Sutton and Justin Lopez both went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Cullen Dana pitched 5.1 innings to earn the win, allowing three runs on six hits while walking four. Henry Henry earned his eighth save of the season by pitching 2.1 perfect innings while striking out two.

Tri-City Dust Devils Won 2-1 (22-28)
After Vancouver took an initial lead against starter Ignacio Feliz, a two-run sixth inning pushed the Dust Devils to victory. Matthew Acosta hit an RBI groundout while Logan Driscoll took a bases-loaded walk to take the lead for Tri-City. Feliz pitched five innings while striking out four. The only run he allowed came on a third-inning home run. Wen-Hua Sung and Tom Colletti both pitched two shutout innings, with Colletti picking up the save.

A wild pitch that allowed Chandler Seagle to score in the seventh inning made the difference put the Padres in the lead for the eventual win. CJ Abrams pushed his batting average back over .400 with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The first-round pick also slapped his eighth triple of the season and scored a run. Noel Vela pitched two innings while Jesus Gonzales earned the win after pitching five innings of two-run ball.

The AZL Padres went 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position while three of their nine hits were for extra bases. Junior Perez raised his batting average to .301 with a 2-for-5 game to go along with two RBIs. Also collecting two hits was Cristian Heredia, who had an RBI double in the seventh inning. Brett Kennedy made his first start of the season, pitching just one inning and allowing a run to score. Kennedy walked one and struck out one while throwing seven of his 11 pitches for strikes.

Despite the DSL Blue Jays out-hitting the DSL Padres 14-to-8, the four errors committed by the Jays lifted the Padres to victory. The 11 walks and three strikeouts the Padres took certainly helped them out as well. Charlis Aquino and Edwin Rojas both collected two hits and an RBI each. Starter Gilberto Sosa allowed six hits and a run in a start that ended in a no-decision.
