The Tijuana Toros had a convincing 9-0 win over Algodoneros de Union Laguna on Tuesday to start a six-game road trip.

The pitching had a solid display and the standouts at the plate were Jorge Cantu and Cyle Hankerd, who had four RBI each in the encounter.

Cantu particularly stood out as he hit a grand slam in the fifth inning that really opened up the score and gave the Border City Bulls a 6-0 lead.

It was Cantu’s second grand slam in his last four games as he now has 11 RBI in his last four games as well.

The Texas native had a very slow start to the season with only 10 RBI on the campaign before last Friday.

The ex-Marlins’ slugger is now second on the border city side in RBI with 21, just behind Cyle Hankerd with 23.

The 36-year-old infielder inclusively has three consecutive multi-hit games and is currently on a five-game hitting streak. Cantu has increased his batting average to .278 and is well on his way to exceeding the .300 mark if he can continue his success.

The former Padre’ hit .282 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI in 99 games last season, but may exceed his RBI mark this season, even with the current short-season format in place in the LMB.

The Toros currently have one of the most imposing and talented lineups in all the LMB, and it helps when players like Cantu are really stepping up. Tijuana has improved to a 13-9 record this season, and if the bats continue to perform like they have, another championship is on the horizon.
