Chargers News: A Look at the Chargers Last Five Drafts

With the recent trade between the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Rams, there is even more buzz heading into the 2016 NFL Draft for Chargers fans. Sitting at number three overall in round one, Tom Telesco is in the position to select who he believes is the best player in the draft.

The Rams will take a quarterback with the recently acquired first pick, and the dumpster fire that is the Cleveland Browns should be taking the leftover QB with the second pick. Carson Wentz and Jared Goff are the top two gun-slingers this year’s draft, but no one has either one of them at the top of their draft boards. That spot has been reserved for players like OT Laremy Tunsil, DB Jalen Ramsey, or D-Linemen Joey Bosa and DeForest Buckner. Even Myles Jack coming off an injury could still possibly be on the top of draft boards around the league.

So let the debate begin. What are the Chargers going to do? Who should be their top pick?

Can you pass up on the best offensive lineman in the draft? Tough to argue against when the current offensive line has problems getting out of bed without turning an ankle and can’t get their hands on a plastic bag dancing in the wind. If you do draft Tunsil, what does that mean for King Dunlap? You can’t have the #3 pick of a 4-12 team on the bench.

Can you overlook Jalen Ramsey? The DB who has been compared to playmakers like Ed Reed and Patrick Peterson. Sure, the Casey Hayward signing was great for the cornerback group, but you can’t tell me the safety position is in good hands. There certainly is a playmaker back there.

Or do you take whomever you believe to be the best defensive lineman in the draft? A position group on the Chargers roster that needs a facelift as much as any, and could definitely use a couple of capable rookies next season.

Regardless, it should be an interesting two-week countdown for our San Diego Chargers. The Pressure is on Tommy, this is draft number four for you brother. You don’t need to hit a home-run with the 3rd pick, you need to hit a 500 foot grand slam that clinches the pennant. I don’t know if anyone has been under this much duress since Lois Einhorn:

While Telesco contemplates his future, either as the Chargers GM or Bill Polian’s assistant at ESPN, I am going to take a look back at the Chargers last five drafts, to see just what in the hell happened to create this 4-12 team.
